Cuboo Heater XL

Cuboo Heater XL – Electricity vs. Flame

The Cuboo family has grown! Today we’re introducing our new induction heater: the Cuboo Heater XL.

The Cuboo Heater XL is on a wooden table.

The Cuboo Heater XL is an elegant alternative to jet lighters when heating manual vaporizers / TEDs (Thermal Extraction Devices) such as DynaVap, Convector or Anvil.

At the same time, it is also designed for larger devices such as the Tempest 2 or Tornado — hence the name XL.

Our Cuboo Heater XL is technically identical to the YLL Induction Heater 3.0, but additionally features a session counter and comes with plenty of accessories.

What Is Induction?

Induction is a physical principle that uses electromagnetic fields to generate electrical current and therefore heat in conductive materials.

In other words: With an induction heater, no current flows directly through the metal of your vaporizer. Instead, a coil inside the heater generates an alternating magnetic field, which induces eddy currents in the metal. These eddy currents then generate heat exactly where it is needed.

Advantages of Induction

The heat is generated directly inside the metal, without the need for a flame or external heating element. This makes the heating process precise, fast, and consistent. Induction is also energy-efficient, as very little heat is lost to the surroundings, and safer, since no open flame is involved.

In short: Induction allows metal parts to be heated precisely, cleanly, and reproducibly — making it the ideal principle for modern induction heaters in the vaporizer space.

With the session counter, you can always keep track of your usage.

With the Cuboo Heater XL, you can heat your vaporizer with up to 100 watts of power. This allows for more precise temperature control and repeatable results, even with larger TEDs.

The Traditional Heating Process

Traditionally heating a TED requires a certain level of attention and focus. Depending on the device, you either have to listen for the click or count seconds. Operation is two-handed: a jet lighter in one hand and the TED in the other — ideally rotating it as well to achieve even heating.

Disadvantages of Lighters

Jet lighters come in various designs: single, double or triple flame, pocket-sized or desktop versions. Achieving the perfect roast depends on many variables such as ambient temperature, flame size, and distance, making it difficult to reliably reproduce consistent results.

We’ve put together a small guide with helpful tips on how to properly use lighters.

This whole process has something archaic about it and can certainly be a pleasant, relaxing ritual. However, it’s not suitable for everyone — especially not for users with motor impairments. For patients with hand tremors, for example, heating quickly becomes a gamble. You can find suitable reading on the medical benefits of cannabis in our specialist literature section.

On top of that, some lighters can be unreliable — especially if you don’t constantly keep an eye on the fuel level. And who really wants to carry around a gas canister all the time?

If you want to avoid all of that, the Cuboo Heater XL is the right choice.

Appearance and Features

Design of the Cuboo Heater XL

With roughly the footprint of a smartphone, the Cuboo Heater XL is pleasantly compact. The elegant wood finish gives it a discreet look that doesn’t immediately reveal what it’s made for. Nothing here screams: “I’m for getting high!”

The blend of wood and metal creates a premium feel that fits perfectly on any coffee table.

The Cuboo Heater XL is battery-powered, making it portable to a certain extent. It’s a bit too large for a pocket, but fits easily into a small bag or backpack. This allows you to heat your favourite herbs even when you’re not at home.

While on the go, the heater can be conveniently charged via a power bank. Alternatively, the batteries can simply be swapped out. For heavy users or longer sessions, we recommend carrying an extra pair of batteries — suitable ones are linked here.

The Modern Heating Process

After unpacking the Cuboo Heater XL, the first step is to insert the batteries (not included). Be sure to observe the correct polarity as indicated inside the battery compartment.

The Cuboo Heater XL is lying on a wooden table with the battery cover open. The battery cover is lying to the right of it. Safety instructions can be seen on the inside of the battery cover.
Beneath the magnetic lid, you have easy access to both the battery compartment and the ceramic plug.

Initial Setup

Next, use the ceramic stopper to set the appropriate height for your TED. The viewing window on the back helps you fine-tune the position precisely. Once adjusted, close the device again using the magnetic bottom lid and power on the Cuboo Heater XL with a triple click.

Setting the Timer and Wattage

You can now adjust the timer using the left and right buttons. A double click on the power button switches to the power setting, where you select your desired wattage. Finding your personal sweet spot may take a bit of experimentation — that’s part of the fun.

Online, you’ll find plenty of recommendations from other users. Alternatively, it’s worth checking the vaporizer manufacturers’ manuals. Mad Heaters, for example, provides a very detailed guide for the Tempest 2 that makes initial setup much easier.

Countdown and Heating

Once you insert your TED into the large opening, the Cuboo Heater XL detects it automatically and starts the countdown. A red LED behind the induction coil provides additional visual feedback during the heating process.

When the countdown ends, heating stops automatically — and you’re ready to enjoy your first draw.

It really doesn’t get much simpler than that.

The integrated session counter helps you keep track of your usage at all times. To reset the counter, simply press the minus button and the power button simultaneously.

Combined with a decapper and a stash — such as the Mad Heaters Reload 3 — the whole process becomes a complete no-brainer. Filling, heating, and emptying are quick and intuitive, and after a short time, the steps become second nature.

Batteries and Charging

When the battery level runs low, simply connect the included USB-C cable to recharge the Cuboo Heater XL quickly. For added convenience, check out the magnetic 3-in-1 charging cable. Alternatively, carrying two spare batteries is always a good idea.

Make sure to never store batteries loose and to “marry” them — meaning they should always be used and charged as a matched pair.

Accessories

The package also includes an additional glass insert and an extra ceramic stopper. These are not only spare parts but can also serve as presets for another TED.

A glass tube with a ceramic inlay and a silicone adapter are on a wooden table.
An additional glass tube with a ceramic plug and a silicone adapter for smaller TEDs are included.

If you regularly switch between micro- and high-dosing — for example between a DynaVap and a Tornado — you can simply swap the pre-set glass tube without having to readjust the height every time. Inserting and removing it (allow the glass to cool!) is much smoother with a gentle twisting motion, which also helps prevent the insert from binding inside the device.

For smaller TEDs, a silicone adapter is also included to ensure a secure fit in the heater and prevent tipping.

Future-Proof by Design

We offer a variety of induction heaters in our shop, and the Cuboo Heater XL is our most powerful battery-powered model to date. It delivers broad compatibility with a wide range of TEDs.

The current trend clearly points toward vaporizers with larger ovens and heating caps with higher thermal mass. With the Cuboo Heater XL, you’re well prepared for this development — now and in the long run.

We’ve created a table with time and wattage recommendations to help you get started right away. This table will be expanded over time as we test additional devices.

Please treat these values as general guidelines. The perfect result depends on many factors and is always a subjective, sensory experience.

Some users prefer big back-to-back hits, while others enjoy shorter draws and relaxed sipping. For the latter, you can simply reduce the power and/or timer and briefly reheat your TED between draws. The choice is entirely yours.

First a terp-heavy low-temp hit, then full power? No problem.

You adapt the device to your own style — not the other way around.

Ball vapes like the Tempest 2 benefit from slightly longer heat-up times so the heat can soak evenly into the core (heat soak). Conversely, the Tornado performs better with shorter heating times; otherwise, the material near the bowl walls may be overheated, resulting in a less even AVB roast overall.

Device / TEDWattageTime (seconds)Notes
DynaVap (Standard/Captive Cap)35W – 45W25 – 40sLower wattage recommended for best flavour.
DynaVap (Armored Cap)50W – 65W45 – 60sThe heavier cap needs time to fully heat through.

Versatility is where the Tempest 2 truly shines, as it allows you to swap out the balls. By choosing different different ball materials, you can influence heat retention and release, giving you fine-grained control over performance. Mad Heaters provides an additional comparison table with recommendations. Feeling experimental? You can also mix different balls to create your own custom blend.

Tip: Stick a small cheat sheet to the bottom of the heater so you don’t have to memorise your favourite presets. With a larger vaporizer collection, things can get confusing quickly.

We strongly suggest the Cuboo Heater XL to any TED user. Thanks to its reliability and ease of use, you can enjoy your sessions without any stress. On top of that, it features a very stylish design. To discover other members of the Cuboo family, please see this post.
