Bamboo, Glass & Pure Convection: What’s Inside the Fuji?

The Fuji operates with true on-demand convection and completely dispenses with plastics in the airpath. Instead, the manufacturer uses solid bamboo, borosilicate glass, and ceramic. Behind the wooden facade lies a clear standard: The Fuji is aimed at experienced users who are looking for the dense vapor of a desktop device in a portable format without compromising on flavor.
Can the compact wooden cone really deliver the power of a stationary vaporizer? Let’s take a closer look right now.
Camouflet’s Path to the Electronic Vaporizer
Before going into the details of the new technology, a brief look at the manufacturer is worthwhile. Camouflet has previously made a name for itself in the community primarily through mechanical vaporizers and alternative heating methods.
The US-based company is best known for the Convector series, including models like the Convector V2 and the Convector XL. These are butane vaporizers (TEDs) that rely purely on convection. In addition, the existing portfolio includes the professional induction heater Inductor V2 as well as the Injector heating head.
Check out the video on the Inductor and Injector in case you aren’t familiar with the devices yet:
The Fuji is Camouflet’s first battery-powered flagship, bringing their analog convection know-how into an electronic device.
Design, Material & Airpath
At first glance, due to its shape, one might almost think the Fuji is a vapor cup for extracts – similar to, for example, the Tronian Omegatron or the CrossingTech ACE Cup. But appearances are deceiving, because the Fuji is a pure herbal vaporizer. Resembling a handcrafted object rather than electronics, the Fuji passes for an aroma diffuser. It blends seamlessly into your home decor after a session. In terms of format and the purist wood look, it strongly reminds one of the Fabric7 Couch-Log, although the Fuji brings the major advantage of working completely wirelessly.
Housing and Form Factor
The Camouflet Fuji is designed in a cone shape, with a wide base that narrows towards the top. The housing itself consists of solid bamboo. Since it is a natural material, the wood grain varies slightly with each unit, making every Fuji unique. The bamboo also serves as an ideal thermal insulator and feels very pleasant to the grip compared to metal or plastic.
A minimalist interface highlights the clean design, featuring a single control button and five LED slots. Atop the wooden cone sits an 18mm male glass joint for water filters, mouthpieces, and whips.
With a height of 95 mm and a diameter of 80 mm, the Fuji is compact yet bulky – comparable to the space requirements of a Taffee Bowle. Due to these proportions, the device rests solidly in the palm of your hand rather than being enclosed by your fingers like a classic pen vaporizer. Carrying it in your pants pocket is therefore practically out of the question.
The Pure Airpath
When it comes to internal values, the Fuji remains uncompromising: The entire vapor path consists exclusively of borosilicate glass and ceramic. Plastics or silicone do not occur in the active airflow. This ensures that the heated air remains absolutely tasteless and the aromas of your plant material are preserved unadulterated.
Temperature Control & Operation
The Fuji omits a complex display, relying instead on intuitive one-button control. This single fire button not only starts the inhalation process but also regulates the temperature.
The device offers five temperature presets:
- Level 1: approx. 160 °C (ideal for pure flavor and mild terpenes)
- Level 2: approx. 180 °C
- Level 3: approx. 200 °C
- Level 4: approx. 220 °C
- Level 5: approx. 240 °C (for maximum extraction and dense clouds)
By double-clicking the button, you can easily cycle through from the coolest to the hottest setting. A triple click also displays the current battery level via the LED interface.
Mouthpieces and Silicone Whip
The Camouflet Fuji offers versatile inhalation methods out of the box and easily adapts to your preferences. The included glass attachments feel solid and do not look like typical, cheap bonus accessories. Its glass is thick enough to withstand normal everyday use well without appearing fragile.
Glass Mouthpiece for Dry Use
For direct inhalation, a glass mouthpiece for use without water is included. Since the vapor path remains completely plastic-free, this mouthpiece offers a particularly pure and unadulterated flavor.
Glass Water Bubbler
If you want to filter and cool the vapor further, you can attach the included glass water bubbler. This attachment locks in securely and cools the vapor down, making the combination an exceptionally strong solution for a portable device.
Silicone Whip with Glass Connections
In addition to the direct mouthpiece and bubbler, the set includes a versatile silicone whip setup with matching glass connections. This allows for a particularly relaxed use where the bulkier device can simply stay on the table while you inhale via the whip.
The Ceramic Heating Matrix
The Camouflet Fuji operates with a self-developed Ceramic Heating Matrix. This is a true on-demand convection system that heats plant material evenly without continuously post-roasting between sessions.
On-Demand Convection
Unlike conduction or conventional session vaporizers, where the chamber is permanently under heat, the heating element on the Fuji is activated exclusively when the fire button is actively held down. Hot air flows directly through the herb chamber only during inhalation.
If you let go of the button and stop the draw, heating stops immediately. This prevents continuous post-roasting of the material between draws and physically ensures that the aromatic complexity is better distributed across the entire session rather than flattening out sharply right after the first couple of draws.
Heat-Up Time and Responsiveness
From a cold start, the Fuji takes about 15 to 20 seconds to reach its actual operating temperature. As is typical for true convection vaporizers, the plant material must then first be brought up to temperature during the first inhalation via the warm airflow. This very first draw therefore requires a slightly longer, steady breath until visible vapor builds up completely. However, once the herbs in the chamber are warmed up, the behavior changes noticeably: The system then reacts lightning-fast and delivers dense vapor with virtually zero delay on every subsequent draw.
The Right Draw Technique
Since the air is heated in real-time, correct handling is crucial for good results. The herbs should never be packed tightly into the capsule, but always filled loosely and airy.
Since the air is heated in real-time, draw technique is crucial for good results. The Fuji rewards a slow, controlled draw of about 8 to 12 seconds. If you draw too hastily, the air flows through the ceramic matrix faster than it can be heated. This is a typical physical characteristic of true convection devices.
Use of Dosing Capsules
By default, the herbs in the Fuji are loaded into small stainless steel baskets, known as baskets or pods. Visually, these capsules strongly remind one of those from the Arizer XQ2, but are roughly twice as high. The manufacturer supplies five of these capsules directly, which greatly facilitates preparation for on the go, as you can pre-fill them and easily swap them out as needed.
However, the Fuji is not strictly dependent on these capsules: If you want to use the device in “injector style” directly on a water filter with a matching bowl, you can also use it completely without a basket.
Battery & Power Supply
The Fuji is powered by two powerful 18650 batteries combined into a so-called dual-18650 battery pack. This generous capacity provides decent runtime that easily lasts through several extensive sessions. The device is charged contemporarily and conveniently via USB-C.
Charging Process & Battery Care
Thanks to an integrated Battery Management System (BMS), the Fuji regulates the charging process entirely on its own and reliably prevents overcharging. You can therefore use any USB-C power adapter without hesitation. A complete charging cycle takes about one to three hours according to the manufacturer. The device is fully charged as soon as the LEDs stop blinking and go completely dark while the cable is still plugged in.
With proper care, the built-in batteries can easily last for years without noticeably losing performance. By the way, you can check your current battery level at any time during use by pressing the control button three times in quick succession.
The Battery Pack Replacement Kit for Maximum Lifespan
In portable vaporizers, batteries are often the biggest weak point in the long run as they inevitably lose capacity over time. Camouflet has thought ahead here to significantly extend the lifespan of the device. If the batteries weaken after years of intensive use, you don’t have to dispose of the entire vaporizer; instead, you can fall back on the Fuji Battery Pack Replacement Kit.
Important: With this system, the explicit purpose is not to quickly swap out empty batteries while on the go, but purely for repair and long-term value preservation of the device. Inside, there are no loose individual batteries, but a firmly wrapped replacement battery pack with an XTC connector.
Access requires loosening four screws on the housing. The replacement itself can be carried out calmly and independently at home at your desk thanks to the simple plug mechanism, without having to pick up a soldering iron.

Who Is the Device For?
The Fuji is not a typical vaporizer for a quick round on the go, but a thoughtful convection tool for connoisseurs and conscious enjoyment. As a handmade, battery-powered ball vape head in the premium price segment, it bridges the gap between a mobile setup and stationary desktop power. It scores uncompromisingly with its plastic-free airpath made of glass and technical ceramic, the solid bamboo housing, and true on-demand convection.
Our practical test at the Mary Jane trade show answers the initial question about performance quite clearly: In terms of sheer extraction power, the device actually delivers true ball vape power, functioning virtually as a mobile “bong-to-go” solution for the living room table or outdoor session. While some stationary ball vapes can quickly feel harsh in the throat due to their brute performance, the vapor from the Fuji is noticeably smoother and rounder.
If you are looking for an inconspicuous stealth device for your pants pocket, the Fuji is definitely the wrong address. But if you appreciate the intensive performance of a desktop vaporizer, value absolutely pure flavor, and want to combine the whole thing comfortably – and above all without annoying cables – directly with your water filters, you will find a first-class solution here. The fact that the batteries are replaceable and the device is designed for longevity makes it all the more interesting for enthusiasts.

Is the Camouflet Fuji a pure on-demand vaporizer?
Yes. The self-developed Ceramic Heating Matrix™ heats the plant material exclusively at the moment you hold down the fire button. As soon as you let go of the button, the heat stops immediately, which prevents unwanted post-roasting of the material between draws.
Can I connect the Fuji directly to my bong?
Yes, absolutely. An integrated 18mm male glass joint sits on top of the wooden cone. This allows you to place the vaporizer directly onto common water filters and injector bowls completely without additional adapters.
Can you quickly swap batteries on the go?
No. Although the Fuji is powered by two powerful 18650 batteries (combined as an internal dual battery pack), these are screwed into the housing. The replacement kit offered by Camouflet is primarily intended as a long-term repair option for home to increase the device’s lifespan, and not for a quick battery swap on the street while on the go.
Do I have to use dosing capsules (baskets)?
No, while they are provided by default and included in the scope of delivery, they are not strictly mandatory. If you want to operate the Fuji in “injector style” on a water filter, you can alternatively use the device completely without baskets.
How is the temperature adjusted?
Control is completely minimalist via a single control button (one-button control) and an LED bar. By double-clicking, you can easily cycle through the five fixed temperature settings from 160 °C (for fine flavor) to 240 °C (for maximum extraction power).
